“The essence of Japanese culture is contained in Chado, the way of tea” – Margie Yap

Please join us in welcoming Margie Yap of the Issoan Tea School for a demonstration of Chado, the Japanese Tea Ceremony. All are welcome.

Marjorie Yap has been a student of Tea since 1982. She spent an intensive year studying Chado in Kyoto, Japan, at the Urasenke Chanoyu Institute. Marjorie received her Chamei (tea name) “Soya”  and teaching credentials from Japan in 2002. She has assisted teaching the art history class, Chado and Japanese Aesthetics at the University of Washington. She also has guest lectured at Portland Community College on Tea Ceramics and at Sarah Lawrence College on The Tea Ceremony and Theatre Arts. She is the founder of Issoan Tea School and can often be seen at Jasmine Pearl Tea Merchants in Portland, OR giving Chado demonstrations.
