Volunteer Positions

As a morning volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that our patrons have access to the materials they need. 

In this role, you’ll assist us with pulling patron holds and putting materials into the hands of our community. Your efforts will help us keep our library running smoothly and make it easier for patrons to find and borrow the resources they need.  

We need volunteers for this task every week, Tuesdays through Sundays. If you have morning availability any of these days, please apply. 

Required skills include, but are not limited to: being on time, bending, kneeling, squatting, stretching, twisting, pushing a book cart, reading small print, fine motor gripping and grasping. 

Afternoon volunteers are responsible for checking in materials that are returning to our library after serving patrons across the county. You’ll work to sort and organize materials, ensuring that they are processed quickly and accurately. Your efforts will help us keep our shelves stocked and make sure that patrons can access the materials they need, when they need them. 

We need volunteers for this task every week, Tuesdays through Sundays. If you have availability on any of these days, please apply. 

Required skills include, but are not limited to: being on time, some computer skills, bending, kneeling, squatting, stretching, twisting, pushing a book cart, fine motor gripping and grasping, lifting 30 pounds with assistance. 

Volunteer Shelvers play a crucial role in maintaining order within the library. This volunteer assignment involves accurately shelving books, magazines, and other materials in their designated places, ensuring that patrons can easily locate and enjoy the resources they seek. Attention to detail and organizational skills are key as you create a tidy and accessible environment for patrons to explore. Your efforts contribute to the smooth functioning of the library, facilitating a seamless experience for those eager to delve into the world of literature and information.

Required skills include, but are not limited to: being on time, attention to detail, ability to read fine print, ability to count, fine motor gripping and grasping, bending, kneeling, squatting, stretching, twisting, pushing a wheeled book cart loaded with up to 60lbs of weight. 

 

Volunteers who support special projects expect the unexpected! This volunteer assignment involves helping the library in a variety of ways. From maintaining our puzzle exchange collection, to helping us relabel books, and everything in between. Because each project is unique, the skills needed for each project will be discussed with the volunteer to determine fit and eligibility. Because of the variability of this work, there is no set schedule and selected volunteers will coordinate with the volunteer coordinator on establishing a schedule as needed for the assigned task.

Required skills will vary depending on the task, and they may include, but are not limited to: being on time, attention to detail, ability to read fine print, ability to count, sitting for periods of time, fine motor gripping and grasping, bending, kneeling, squatting, stretching, twisting, pushing a wheeled book cart loaded with up to 60lbs of weight.

Take and Make volunteers will be responsible for assembling our monthly take-home craft kits for library patrons. Following staff instruction, you will assemble these kits, ensuring that all necessary components are included. Your attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately will be crucial in maintaining the quality and integrity of the kits. 

Required skills include, but are not limited to: being on time, attention to detail, ability to read fine print, fine motor gripping and grasping, bending, kneeling, squatting, stretching, twisting, pushing a book cart.

Eligibility

For most volunteer opportunities, applicants must be at least 14 years of age and must be able to commit to a minimum of a 6-month volunteer period, unless otherwise stated in the volunteer assignment description.

 

The library does not guarantee volunteer opportunities to an applicant if there are no vacancies that are an appropriate match for the availability, skills, and abilities of the applicant.

 

Applicants should be aware of the physically demanding nature of many volunteer tasks, which typically include repetitive hand motions, lifting items of various weights, and a significant amount of standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, and twisting motions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Yes! If you have an existing MyImpact account, you can use your log in credentials to apply to our volunteer program. In fact, it will shorten the application process for you.  

A: We do. Those seeking to complete court-mandated service hours must inform the Volunteer Coordinator of their offense, the number of required service hours, and the deadline by which they need to complete their service. The Library Supervisor or Volunteer Coordinator reserves the right to deny opportunities to volunteers depending on the nature of the offense or insufficient time to complete the necessary service hours within a reasonable deadline.

A: As we relaunch the volunteer program, we will be opening volunteer assignments in phases.  We anticipate opening additional volunteer positions later this summer or in the fall, once our initial wave of volunteers has been trained and are up to speed.
