Friends of the Library

Who are the Friends? The Friends of West Slope Community Library is a non-profit organization which supports our library. Anyone who uses the library may become a member of the Friends. Meetings of the Friends are open to all members and are held at 6:30pm on the third Tuesday of each month in conjunction with meetings of the West Slope Community Library Advisory Board. Meeting times and minutes of meetings are posted on the library bulletin board.

What do the Friends do? First and foremost, the Friends raise money for buying books, programs such as Summer Reading and Adult Winter Reading, projects for making the library more user-friendly (like the purchase of furniture), and more. Our library’s funding is determined by the county, and this is subject to change due to budget constraints and funding allocation methods. In addition to the areas listed above, money the Friends raise is used as a cushion for funding existing library services for which regular county funding may not always be available. We also publish a newsletter which is sent to members 2-3 times a year.

How do I join? You may come into the library to fill out a membership form and submit a check made out to “Friends of WSCL”. Dues and other contributions are tax deductible. Below are the levels of membership:

Individual $15
Family $20
Sustaining $30
Patron $50
